Katlego Nkgudi Deputy Director – Western Cape Provincial Treasury
In celebration of our 40th anniversary, we will be profiling past employees that started their careers in development at Imani. Over the next few months, we will be sharing their experiences of working at Imani and how they have gone on to do remarkable things in their professions.
One such individual is Katlego Nkgudi who is currently working as the Deputy Director in the Budget Office for the Western Cape Provincial Treasury. Katlego spent 3 and half years with Imani as a freelance and later junior consultant.
During his time at Imani, Katlego initially focused on developing and applying his agricultural expertise in projects such as “Profiling the Agro-Processing industry in the SADC Region”. Over time he was given space and support within the company to develop a highly versatile set of skills in economic development spanning economic analysis, policy development and trade facilitation. One of the standout projects he also contributed to was the NOAH M&E review, where he gained insights into impact evaluation and strategic planning.
After leaving Imani, Katlego’s career continued to flourish. He transitioned to roles at TechnoServe and the Western Cape Provincial Government.
Kathlego recently shared his reflections on his time at Imani and the impact it had on his career path. He believes that working at Imani was an important piece in the puzzle. This experience was instrumental in shaping his career path and the role he is in now. In his words,
“Becoming a sound economic analyst was probably the most prized skill that I took away during my time at Imani Development. I could never have guessed that there was a role for someone like me in the Western Cape Provincial Treasury. When I followed up to really understand from the interview panel members who are now my colleagues on what was it that really stood out? It was actually the 5 pages of my CV of Imani projects.“
