Indonesia is one of the few remaining cocoa producers in South-East Asia, ranking first in regional production. MARS is committed to the sustainable development of the cocoa sector in Indonesia, with a strategic interest to continue investing in producers and their productive assets, processing infrastructure, and initiatives that contribute to maintaining sustainable livelihoods strategies.

Imani Development was commissioned to formulate a practical and actionable implementation plan for the current cocoa development strategy in Indonesia. We prepared a report which articulated the best-fit opportunities for MARS vision. The report included

i) Findings from economic and policy analysis;

ii) An overview of the cocoa market system in Indonesia;

iii) Scenarios linked to MARS vision, prioritising activities and identifying suitable partners;

iv) Sustainable local economy scenario model showing sustainable livelihoods impact and

v) Production / productivity enhancing model options with supporting evidence.
